Mac Light
Songwriter
As a child, Mac Light, professional songwriter, would practice his trumpet outside so as not to disturb his family, entertaining the Colorado cows, never would he imagine that one day he would become a professional songwriter and collaborate with one of Elvis’ lyricists.
After he graduated with two music degrees, he moved to Chicago where he played gigs with a salsa band to unruly crowds which often resulted in the police helping them off the stage. In his world of extremes Mac would play the out of town gig and then the next day at a local Church sunrise service. A night and morning to remember.
After graduating with a masters, he moved to Tulsa, to pursue a job in higher education. But that’s when everything changed. "I ended up in prison… fortunately on the right side of the bars. I taught the inmates the basics of music reading, writing and theory and they taught me how to make a song real. I told myself I would only teach for 6 months but I loved it so much I stayed there 11 years."
In between songwriting, Mac inspires elementary children as a music teacher in Las Vegas. He is writing songs for radio and film and has scored the feature length independent movie Space. This also includes the song "Straight and True".
He even has a children's choir piece "Light a Little Candle" published by Shawnee Press a division of Hal Leonard.
